Description
Title: How To Get Started
Description: Andrew will discuss how smaller clubs, with little resources, can create a marketing presence, both with their membership, and potential members, to grow the club while using the limited resources that they have.
Title: OYSA Cup Game, Game reporting, & Misconduct reports
Description: Scott and Ian will review the procedure for handling cup competitions, and the complexities of the competitions as teams advance to knockout rounds etc.
They will also be discussing the correct way to write Misconduct Reports, as well as some commons mistakes in reporting incidents that transpire at games.
Title: Becoming Leaders Through Refereeing
Description:
Join Heather at the Oregon Youth Soccer Association AGM to explore how refereeing youth soccer shapes confident, resilient leaders ready to thrive both now and in the future. By embracing mentorship, education, and community support, young referees gain life-changing skills—such as integrity, decision-making, and leadership—that empower them to excel on the field and beyond. Heather will also highlight the impact of programs like the OYSA Development Academy and local Recreational Leagues, where beginner referees are guided by mentors as they develop their abilities and progress toward competitive levels. These experiences build a foundation of character, inspiring young referees to lead with purpose and carry the lessons they’ve learned into all aspects of their lives.

Coaching the Whole Person Athlete – Making Sense of Sports Nutrition
Greta Jarvis

Description:
Since the pandemic, we have seen dramatic increases in body image disturbances, disordered eating, and eating disorders among people of all ages, with youth athletes as an especially high-risk group. Here’s what we know:
- 30.03% of girls and 16.98% of boys ages 6 to 18 engage in disordered eating behaviors (López-Gil et al., 2023)
- 40% of soccer players exhibit menstrual irregularities (Gimunová et al., 2022)
- Up to 79.5% of female athletes and 70% of male athletes are not eating enough to meet their bodies’ needs (Mountjoy et al., 2023)
And yet: the vast majority of athletes, coaches, trainers, and administrators receive little to no training on these topics. Join Greta Jarvis, MS, MPH of the Center for Active Women to learn tools and strategies for building a team and organizational culture that nurtures healthy relationships with food, body, and sport, as well as how to recognize when an athlete may need further support.
Coaching the Whole-Person Athlete: A Game Plan for Preventing Disordered Eating and Nourishing Healthy Body Image on Your Team
Spending hours with their team during practices and games, coaches are well-positioned to support the mental, physical, and emotional health of the athletes in their care. They may be among the first to spot early signs of disordered eating, under-eating, or eating disorders – such as weight changes, increased irritability or fatigue, and/or decreased performance and endurance – and they are leaders who help define their team’s culture and norms. This presentation overviews strategies and tools for soccer coaches and administrators to prevent disordered eating and nourish positive body image, as well as how to recognize when an athlete may need further support.
Making Sense of Sports Nutrition: What Every Soccer Coach Needs to Know
As a busy student-athlete, keeping yourself nourished is no small task – especially when every headline, website, and social media influencer seems to have a different definition of what healthy eating really means. This presentation equips soccer coaches and administrators to understand what it looks like to eat in a way that nourishes body, mind, and sport, as well as common pitfalls to avoid and signs of under-eating. Join us to equip yourself with practical nutritional knowledge to support your athletes in feeling and fueling their best, both on and off the field.
Testimonials:
“This presentation needs to be required training for all coaches of any age group, especially adolescent athletes. If my own coaches had this information during my time competing, I might have avoided a lot of harm and seen better performance.”
“This level of nutritional education and awareness should absolutely be required for head coaches of all high school sports. The information was presented in a way that is accessible to all coaches, regardless of their background. Arming coaches with this knowledge allows them to have positive conversations with their athletes surrounding body image, diet culture, and nutrition. The work that Greta is doing is so important, and I hope that in my career I see a change in coaching education at the policy level.”
“When Greta hosts workshops to help our female athletes understand the power of their bodies, she makes them feel heard and understood. Her practical tips and insightful advice have helped our athletes develop a healthier, more positive relationship with food and their bodies. Her dedication, empathy, and expertise have made a profound impact on our athletes’ lives.”
