We are incredibly excited to announce that Greg Maas will be joining the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) as our new Technical Director, beginning July 1.
Greg’s coaching journey began right here in Oregon over 30 years ago as the Director of Coaching for Lake Oswego Soccer Club. Since then, his commitment to player and program development, coaching education, and high-performance excellence has only grown throughout a remarkable career.
Before returning to Oregon in 2021, Greg served for over 12 years as Technical Director for Utah Youth Soccer, where he also coached Real Salt Lake’s U-17 team to a 2008 MLS U-17 SUM Cup Championship, a 3rd place finish in 2009, and a finals appearance in 2010. In 2013, he made history as the first NCAA Division I men’s head coach in Utah, launching the program at Utah Valley University. During his tenure, Utah Valley compiled an impressive 67-44-10 record—reaching the NCAA Tournament, WAC championships, and garnering multiple WAC honors, including Coach of the Year.
Most recently, Greg brought his leadership and vision to Eastside Timbers, helping drive success and growth throughout the club and broader community. His dedication earned him the distinction of OYSA’s 2024 Administrator of the Year.
In recognition of his lasting impact on the game, Greg was inducted into the Utah Soccer Hall of Fame in November 2024.
OYSA Executive Director, Simon Date said,
“Appointing Greg for this important leadership role was an easy decision. His deep roots in Oregon, combined with his wealth of experience and proven track record, make him uniquely qualified to guide the technical direction of our sport. We are confident that Greg will be instrumental in elevating on-field development, standards, and quality for years to come. I could not be more excited to welcome Greg to OYSA.“
Greg holds the USSF ‘A’ License, National Goalkeeper License, National Youth License, and the NSCAA International Premier Diploma. He also contributes to the sport nationally as an educator and curriculum contributor with U.S. Soccer, US Youth Soccer, and the United Soccer Coaches. A proud University of Portland graduate, Greg played under the legendary Clive Charles and became the university’s first goalkeeper to sign a professional contract—playing for FC Portland and the Portland Timbers in the Western Soccer Alliance.
As he prepares to join OYSA, Greg looks forward to the new role, stating,
“There’s a reason Portland is known as Soccer City USA — it’s a legacy built on passion, tradition, and a strong sense of community. I’m incredibly proud to join the leadership team at OYSA, where I can help advance the growth and development of our sport across Oregon and Southwest Washington. The soccer landscape is undergoing significant change, and I look forward to working closely with our club leaders—both on and off the field—to provide guidance, support, and resources. Together, we can enhance opportunities and elevate the experience for everyone involved.”
